Is Phoebe Bridgers Preparing for a 2025 Album Release?

Phoebe Bridgers has been one of indie rock’s most beloved and enigmatic figures in recent years. Whether as a solo artist or as part of the powerhouse trio Boygenius, her haunting melodies and sharp lyrics have earned her a dedicated following and critical acclaim. But as 2024 rolls on, the question on everyone’s mind is: will Bridgers return to the spotlight with new music in 2025?

Since Boygenius—a supergroup consisting of Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker—dropped their 2023 album The Record, which was nominated for multiple Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year, the trio announced they were “going away for the foreseeable future” to focus on their respective solo careers. While Baker has already teamed up with Torres for the twangy “Sugar In The Tank”, and Dacus is gearing up to release Forever Is A Feeling (which features contributions from both Bridgers and Baker), Bridgers has remained largely out of the public eye.

As one of the quieter members of Boygenius, Bridgers has kept a low profile since their 2023 whirlwind of success. While the other two members have stayed busy with new projects, Bridgers has given no formal indication that she’s working on new music or that an album is on the way. In fact, the last time she released a solo project was 2021’s Copycat Killer EP, which followed her critically lauded album Punisher.

This hiatus comes as no surprise, though. Bridgers had made it clear in 2023 that she was intentionally taking a step back. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she explained, “I made the decision three years ago to take a massive step back. I think we all want a little break.” She also emphasized that she felt a need to completely unplug, admitting, “I can’t function if I do anything in 2024 that is public.”

While fans have certainly missed her, it seems like this break was crucial for Bridgers’ mental and creative well-being. As the third member of Boygenius to step into the solo spotlight with major projects, the anticipation for her return in 2025 is palpable. While there’s no formal album announcement yet, it’s hard to imagine Bridgers not emerging with something new this year.

The question remains: will Bridgers return with a new album in 2025? Given the momentum she built as part of Boygenius and her long-standing ability to create deeply personal and compelling music, it seems almost inevitable. For now, we wait, hoping that this break results in even more poignant music when Bridgers re-enters the fray.
