Mariah Carey just turned up the heat on an already blazing summer. On Friday (July 11), Carey surprise-released a four-track remix EP of her latest single “Type Dangerous.” The best way to describe the lineup is of collaborators that span eras, genres, and continents.

Titled simply “Type Dangerous (Remixes),” the EP is a celebration of Carey’s long-standing love affair with hip-hop, dance, and global sounds. Leading the pack is “The Remix of the Gods,” a heavyweight posse cut featuring longtime collaborators Busta Rhymes, Method Man, and Redman. It’s a throwback to the golden age of rap remixes. Thus, it is anchored by the original track’s infectious clap sample and bounce-laced funk.

Redman kicks things off with swagger and wit. “I came through the door swingin’ that big hammer. Like Thor, meat coat dragging on the floor.” Method Man delivers razor-sharp bars with his signature cool. “No script since ’36, this is a master kill… To the masses, I get it lit, this is mass appeal.” Busta closes out the remix with a breathless flurry of rhymes. “When I spit, I’m the craziest… Maybe this is one of the situations you thought you were the nicest.”

Snake drops “The Touch The Soul of the People Remix,” layering the track with sultry Latin club rhythms that nod to reggaetón and house. Meanwhile, Brazilian pop star Luísa Sonza brings a blast of high-octane energy to “The Brazil Funk Remix.” Hence, she is turning up the tempo with the addition of seductive Portuguese verse.

“Type Dangerous” originally dropped June 6.Thus it gave the first taste of Carey’s long-awaited 16th studio album. Hence, making their first full-length since 2018’s Caution. The EP now extends the single’s life. The EP and hints at the range of musical collaborations Mariah plans to explore on the upcoming LP. The singer recently revealed the album is complete. It will feature 11 or 12 tracks. It will also includes her signature ballads alongside a breezy second single expected to arrive soon.
