DJ Dehko Bridges Hip-Hop and EDM with ‘Tektroit Vol. 2’
DJ Dehko has been in the industry since he was a teenager, rising from a teenage DJ to a leader in electronic music. His style, Tektroit, expertly combines the gritty aesthetic of Detroit rap and the energetic rhythm of EDM to create a sound that is taking over the music scene. Dehko began his music career at the age of 12, when he organized a party that was on the verge of collapsing due to a broken DJ machine.
That experience revived his passion for DJing, and soon enough, he was renowned for throwing some of Detroit’s coolest parties. His early exposure to hip-hop, courtesy of his dad’s playlist of 2Pac and Biggie, provided the basis of his musical taste. However it was discovering Ultra Music Festival that introduced him to electronic music, and he wanted to merge these two genres.
Tektroit is a movement that bridges the gap between hip-hop and EDM. Dehko noticed EDM fans needed richer lyrics, yet rap fans yearned for something more diverse beyond repetitive beats.
The success of Tektroit Vol. 1 set the stage for Tektroit Vol. 2, which continues to expand on this vision of pushing boundaries.
Tracks like “Lambo Money” and “Messi” show Dehko’s ability to blend genres into one another, creating a sound that resonates with different audiences. Dehko’s collaborations are visionary and selective. He desires artists who are not only talented but also risk-takers. Dehko‘s live shows are full of energy, bringing together EDM and hip-hop fans in a shared experience. His performances at iconic clubs like Elektricity and The Annex in Detroit, and Miami, have made him a live performer. By staying true to his Detroit roots while innovating, Dehko is not merely following the trends; he’s creating them.
As Tektroit continues to evolve, Dehko thinks there is boundless potential for the style. The combination of EDM and rap can work with musicians globally, not necessarily restricted to Detroit. His goal is to keep on challenging boundaries, making music and events that transcend borders but still keep to the heritage of his hometown’s musicality. With Tektroit Vol. 2, Dehko has progressed further on what it means to be a DJ and producer today.
