Kid Cudi Has A New Release Of His Documentary
Kid Cudi has never shied away from vulnerability. Now, the genre-mixing artist is opening an even more intimate chapter. All of it with the announcement of his forthcoming autobiography, “CUDI,” set for release on August 5 via Simon & Schuster.
The announcement came on Sunday (May 11) via Instagram. The Cleveland-born artist revealed both the title and cover art. It featured a haunting, childlike painting of a cartoon face with its mouth agape. “I cannot wait for you guys to read it,” he wrote. “It’s filled with so much about my journey from my first memory to turning 40. Life lessons, the rager period of my life, and fighting my demons.”

Described by Simon & Schuster as “raw” and “fearless,” CUDI traces Mescudi’s evolution. Starting from a troubled kid in Ohio to one of the most emotionally resonant voices in modern music. “Across a trailblazing career, he’s turned pain into poetry,” the publisher notes, citing tracks like “Day ’N’ Nite,” and “Pursuit of Happiness.” “But while he was ascending to cultural dominance, he was quietly unraveling.”
Thus, the memoir, written during deep self-exploration, promises to be more than a personal history. It’s a story of survival. Depression, addiction, isolation, and self-doubt form the undercurrent of Cudi’s journey. Yet, so do hard-won lessons in vulnerability, reinvention, and perseverance. “All the way to the present, where happiness has found me,” Cudi shared. “I hope this book does what my music does for you—gives you guidance and hope that you will make it through those difficult times.”
Kid Cudi and His Career Details in Autobiography
In classic Kid Cudi form, the project will also be multidisciplinary. The memoir will include selections of his artwork. His first public foray into visual art—and personal photographs spanning his childhood, early career, and beyond. “This is my debut of my artwork,” he wrote. “There will be more pictures of my paintings in the book, as well as pictures from childhood all the way to my years in the business and all the things I’ve accomplished.”
True to form, CUDI is just one piece of an ambitious creative stretch. Hot on the heels of 2024’s Insano (Nitro Mega), the rapper recently dropped a cryptic teaser for a new single titled “Neverland,” which is now available and expected to appear on his upcoming FREE album—this after earlier hinting that Insano would be his final LP.
Further Developments of Cudi’s Career
Also, music and memoir aren’t where the story ends. Kid Cudi also revealed that he’s stepping behind the camera for the first time. When the Light Dies, his directorial debut, is slated for 2026 and described as a “horror/romance” born from a story he penned himself. “I’ve been wanting to direct movies ever since I was a kid,” he shared. “And I’m finally stepping into this new chapter.”
While details remain under wraps, Cudi has launched a dedicated Instagram page for his directing work. Though, as of Monday (May 12), the account was temporarily down after being flagged by Instagram. “Working on getting it restored,” he wrote in the comments. Ever the creative, he’s been experimenting with test shoots, lighting setups, and lenses in preparation. “I wanna give you guys access to my mind,” he teased. “Who’s joining the journey?”
With CUDI, a new album, and a feature film in the works, Kid Cudi is rewriting what it means to be a multifaceted artist in the 21st century—on his own terms and in his own voice.
