Varun Sheel Unveils Soulful New Single “Over You”
Indie pop sensation Varun Sheel has just released his latest single, “Over You,” a track that further cements his reputation for blending diverse musical influences into captivating soundscapes. This new release follows the emotional success of his previous single, “More than Friends,” and showcases Sheel’s exceptional ability to craft music that resonates deeply with listeners.
Raised in a household where Western melodies intertwined with Bollywood rhythms, Varun Sheel’s musical foundation was laid by his father, a skilled vocalist and harmonium player. This rich musical heritage, combined with Varun’s self-taught proficiency on the guitar, has shaped his unique sound—one that deftly merges traditional elements with contemporary indie pop.
“Over You” emerges as a poignant anthem of emotional liberation and acceptance. The track, co-written by Sheel and Durre Ali, is a testament to his talent as both a musician and a storyteller. Varun Sheel took on the role of producer for the single, with Matt Bishop handling the mixing and mastering. The song features an intricate arrangement that includes trumpet, tuba, trombone, violin, viola, cello, piano, guitar, drums, and bass, all interwoven with lush vocal harmonies.
Reflecting on the creation of “Over You,” Varun shares, “The initial ideas for the guitar parts, chorus, and pre-chorus came to me in a flash. I was so eager to capture the moment that I ended up damaging my rug running out of the shower, towel in hand, to record it. Some songs take years to develop, but this one came together in minutes.”
Varun’s previous single, “More than Friends,” was celebrated for its evocative portrayal of youthful romance and nostalgia, marked by its looped guitar riffs and 1980s-inspired synthesizers. This track encapsulated the essence of longing and acceptance through its soulful vocals and heartfelt lyrics.
With “Over You,” Varun Sheel continues to demonstrate his remarkable ability to weave his contemporary indie pop style with his Bollywood influences, crafting melodies that are both emotionally profound and musically intricate.
